What Makes Honeychop Different?
Honeychop chaffs offer so much more than just a bag of molassed straw and there is something in the range for every horse or pony.
Conservation Grade Oat Straw- Here at Honeychop we use Conservation Grade oat straw in our chaffs, even when prices are higher and oat straw is scarce. Oat straw is considered to be the best amongst the cereal grain straws compared to barley or wheat straw which is commonly found in competitor products. We feel this is important because it is softer and tends to be more palatable than wheat or barley straw. Oat straw also has a lower lignin content which makes it easier for horses to digest.
Helping The Environment- Honeychop understands that the way feed is grown is very important to today’s consumer. Customers can be assured that by purchasing our products they are helping to maintain the British countryside and its wildlife. This is down to us using the finest Conservation Grade oat straw, which is grown using farming methods that help create conditions for wildlife to flourish, but at the same time maintaining the highest standards of food safety.
NOPS Controls Important strict quality control measures are employed to reduce your horse’s exposure to mycotoxin in feed. Mycotoxins are harmful substances produced by moulds that can be widely found on poorly harvested or stored feed ingredients. As Honeychop has been accredited the BETA UFAS NOPS code we can reassure our customers of the strict manufacturing practise that is in place for every step of the process for all of our products. Only the highest standard of ingredients are sourced from approved suppliers, with full traceability – from the packaged product right back to the field where it was grown.
Essential Minerals - Honeychop have added some essential minerals to our chaffs such as calcium and salt which is often lacking in the diet, but are both very important for any horse or pony that is worked regularly. Calcium in the form of limestone is added to ensure that the calcium to phosphorus ratio of our chaffs is appropriate, helping to maintain the calcium and phosphorus balance of the whole diet. Calcium is also vital for healthy growth, strong bones, teeth and hooves. Salt is an essential mineral required by a horse to function normally; a lack of salt can cause loss of performance. Honeychop contains these minerals at a functional level and a kilogram of Honeychop Chaff per day will contribute significantly to the overall intake of these minerals in the diet.
Added Additions- the Honeychop range has expanded. Alongside our original we have 3 flavours with added extras
Plus
Apple- is added for flavour and sweetness. Many horses require medication at some time such as daily doses of bute for example. Also some horses dislike the addition of supplements or additives to their feed and will reject it. Our Apple chaff is excellent for helping to mask the drugs and improve palatability of the feed. Honeychop Plus Apple contains natural apple pieces and apple flavouring making it highly appetizing for horses and it is ideal for fussy feeders.
Plus
Garlic- Garlic is renowned for its general health benefits and wide appeal amongst horse owners. The main active ingredient in garlic is believed to be allicin, although it is also rich in organic sulphur and possesses many other potential active ingredients. Garlic reputedly exhibits anti-bacterial, anti-fungal and even anti-viral properties and is also widely acknowledged to deter flies from harassing horses in the summer months. Honeychop Plus Garlic includes garlic at a functional level rather than just enough to give a ‘nice smell’ with each Kilogram providing 30 grams of garlic which is the recommended daily amount for a 500kg horse
Plus
Herb- four herbs known for their therapeutic properties to horses and ponies are included.
Thyme helps with digestion and stimulates the immune system.
Oregano aids in the smooth running of the cardiovascular system.
Mint takes care of oral health by inhibiting harmful bacterial growth inside the mouth by cleaning the tongue and teeth. And
Sage reduces inflammations and induces a calming effect which helps relieve stress, tension and settles nerves.
So you could just use a chaff that simply slows down the rate of eating and bulks out the diet, but better than that you could use Honeychop chaff which is adding more to your horse or ponies diet by providing a consistent and quality product, with a functional level of beneficial ingredients.
