Our History
1986
The Idea: With the farm needing to diversify the idea came when the Honeywoods purchased a bag of molassed chaff for Liquorice the family pony. The chaff appeared to be nothing more than poor quality straw mixed with molasses
Robert Honeywood had the idea of producing a superior feed at a competitive price. Good quality oat straw was used as the main ingredient, mixed with hay and barley straw, molasses, limestone, salt and proprionic acid in accordance with veterinary advice.
1987
The Name & Logo: The Logo was designed by Robert’s wife Valerie Honeywood and the name derives from the prefix “Honey” from the family surname and “chop” to represent chaff, creating Honeychop.
First Order: The first order for 44 bags of Honeychop was taken in March 1987 and produced by a second hand Feedmobile
New Product: In September 1987 Honeychop Plus Garlic (to help ease respiratory problems) and Honeychop Plus Seaweed (to help provide minerals and iodine for good health and a shiny coat) were introduced.
1988
Sales Rep: The popularity of Honeychop had increased and John Guy was employed as a sales rep
